Barre and Fitness

Introduction:Meet Taylor Kennedy, a barre and fitness instructor whose journey with movement began at Firefly in 2016, when she started helping out at the studio after a friend brought her to class. At the time, Taylor was in a heavy season—navigating depression, smoking a pack a day, and experiencing stretches where simply getting out of bed felt like a challenge. When she first stepped into class, she often kept her sweatshirt on as a kind of armor—a way to stay hidden while still showing up.

Training and Approach:Before ever becoming an instructor, Taylor committed to barre as a student. Showing up consistently led to profound changes: she quit smoking, significantly shifted her relationship with alcohol, lost 70–80 pounds, and began rebuilding both physical and mental strength. In 2019, Taylor completed barre training with Barre Intensity, and while she was encouraged to step into teaching at that time, the world soon shifted with COVID, pausing that next chapter. In 2023, ready to fully step into her voice and leadership, Taylor completed barre training again at Firefly, bringing her lived experience, resilience, and deep appreciation for the power of consistency into every class she teaches.

Teaching Philosophy:Taylor’s teaching is rooted in empathy, empowerment, and growth. When she first started at the studio, she was shy and introverted, often barely speaking. Watching her peel back the layers, find her confidence, and begin sharing herself with this community has been a true joy. Today, Taylor leads with both heart and strength—sometimes offering quiet encouragement, other times joyfully shouting to motivate students to dig deeper because they deserve it. She believes transformation is ongoing, not linear, and she is passionate about supporting others wherever they are on that journey.

Personal Life and Motivation:Outside the studio, Taylor loves being outdoors, especially during Michigan’s warmer months. She enjoys biking anywhere and everywhere, going to shows with friends, and heading out on puppy adventures with her dog.

Words of Encouragement:Taylor reminds students that it’s okay to start quietly, imperfectly, or with uncertainty. Showing up matters. Strength, confidence, and change are built over time—and everyone belongs in the room.

Favorite Music and Class Atmosphere:Expect hype, upbeat playlists and an energizing, supportive vibe. Taylor keeps her music fresh and motivating, creating classes that challenge you to work hard, feel empowered, and leave stronger than when you arrived.
